Describe the main conflict:
Man vs. Environment: Throughout the whole story Conroy was battling the elements, the cold, bucking a fresh fall of snow, thin ice, freezing water and even fire, when he finds that the cabin had been in a fire.




Describe the Climax of the Story:
When he started to hallucinate, hearing horse bells, a streaming river over mossy boulders and seeing a cottage. All leading up to the climax of his death.



How does the Protagonist change over the course of the story?
He started to realize his ego and knowledge was becoming his downfall. His stubbornness to reach his goal, and have story to tell, vs. his common sense to stop and survive, soon became his reality and he knew this towards the end.



Describe the relationship between the title and the theme.
The theme is Dave Conroy, a trapper, trapping in the mountains and the story of his journey that’s a reason the title is A Mountain Journey.



How does the main conflict help to illustrate the theme?
The main conflict illustrates the theme because the conflict is the environment the theme takes place in which is the mountains.




How does the climax help to illustrate the theme?
The climax illustrates the theme because his death is part of his journey through the mountains.

“A man was a fool to travel alone in the mountains, especially with a heavy pack, bucking fresh fall of snow. A man a lone would travel till he could travel no more, for the mere sake of traveling.” Conroy, a seasoned trapper, knew the consequences of what harsh weather and misfortunes could do to a person yet he went against his better judgements and his demise was inevitable.





Irony:
Even with all of Conroy’s knowledge he knew he was past the point of no return.”He gathered his muscles together, summoned the strength that was slipping away from him like a loosened garment. Then lay back for another moment, to rest.”





Imagery:”Mist, like the shadow of the universal darkness on the treeless summit, moved about him, searched every crevice of the mountain land, roamed in great billows, formed in the blindness and suffering of the eternal homelessness.”




Describe the relationships between the class theme and the story.
Humanity can’t survive if people don’t make the right decisions. Dave Conroy made some bad choices that ultimately lead to his death.
